Croatian athlete Ivan Martinac is the European Championships -75 kg finalist. Ivan achieved four victories at the 2024 European Senior Karate & Para-Karate Championships in Zadar today, ensuring the second medal for Croatia in the Championships.
In the first round, Ivan won against Polish athlete Lukasz Bankowski defeating him 2:0. In the second round, he overcame Austrian Stefan Pokorny, and in the third round, he defeated Portuguese Tiago Duarte with a score of 2:0. His semifinal opponent was karateka from the North Macedonia, Peter Zaborski, whom Ivan defeated four seconds before the end of the match after a suspenseful encounter, securing a final victory with a score of 3:0 through an ippon.
The final of the -75 kg category is scheduled for Saturday, 11 May starting at 13:05 according to the preliminary schedule. Ivan’s opponent will be Italian Daniele de Vivo. Ivan already possesses several European team medals, but this will be his first one in the individual category. With this achievement, Ivan has also secured the second medal for Croatia in the Championships, following Angelo Kvesić’s advancement to the final in the +84 kg category.
